What is the involvement of the mRNA quality control in cellular fitness and aging?

    Opis projekta

Recently, we have shown that RNA chaperones act as mutation buffers enhancing organismal fitness. In order to explore the mechanism of their action, our goal is to proceed in several different directions including the elucidation of the types of mutations buffered by RNA chaperones and the identification of functional RNA–chaperone interactions in order to allow us to identify in vivo targets of RNA chaperones.
We aim to extend this line of research onto non-translating mRNAs that accumulate in two types of cytoplasmic mRNP granules, P-bodies, and stress granules, in order to describe the changes in assembly, composition, and function of mRNP granules during aging and age-related diseases.
