Individual proteins display great variation in their sensitivity to oxidative modifications, especially carbonylation. In addition, less-than-perfect protein folding can dramatically increase the sensitivity to oxidative modifications. So far, we have provided multiple lines of evidence that proteins acquire resistance to oxidative stress by an increased conformational stability. Therefore, one of our main research interests is to explore the details of the inequalities in the susceptibility to oxidative damage of entire proteins, as well as parts of protein molecules, and the mechanisms conferring their resistance to oxidation.
